Surgery

Tucker had surgery yesterday & had tubes put in his ears & his adenoids & tonsills taken out. We were at the hospital at 6:30. He was called to pre-op at 6:45. They checked his pulse ox, BP & temp. He also had to put on a gown. He was not happy! The pics are after about 30 min of calming him down. The Dr talked to us as well as anesthesia & he was taken back to surgery at 7:50. They called us into recovery at 8:40. We could hear him crying before the doors opened. He had cardiac monitors, a BP cuff, an IV & a pulse ox. He was desperately trying to take them all off & mad about it. We tried to give him a popsicle which he refused, but he would take some juice. He had pulled his IV out so he got to take everything off & he was much happier. He kept crying & in his cry he would say "OW"- sob,sob - "WIE"! It was very cute & would have been funny if he wasn't in so much pain. After we got all the junk off him & got him dressed, he turned to Corby & said, "Daddy...go bye-bye?" So, we left the hospital at 9:00. At first, I had been nervous about taking him home, but after being in recovery, we knew he would be better at home. He fell asleep on the way home, so we dropped off his script for Amoxicillin & Tylenol with Codeine. When we got home, he curled up on the couch with all his stuff & watched Tom & Jerry & Thomas. 4 hours after he went into the OR he was up playing. He did ok during the afternoon, but his throat still hurt despite the Codeine. We had a rough night last night. Neither one of us slept much. Today he has a fever. The Dr said he is most likely dehydrated & the Tylenol is dosed for the Codeine so he isn't getting enough Tylenol to help with the fever. We started him on Motrin. His Dr said he is more worried about him being in the ER with an IV from dehydration than the small risk of bleeding with the Motrin. He was able to sleep for a few hours after the Motrin, so hopefully it's helping. Besides the fever, he is doing well today. We just have to force fluids & keep him hydrated.
